When Worlds Collide

If you read my About section, you’ll see that I’m an animator by day and a wanna-be fashionista all the time. I spend a good 9 hours sitting in front of my computer and it’s my responsibility as an animator and a human being, to always be on the lookout for inspiration. I scour the web each and every day for color palettes, fashion finds, new and interesting stories and animations, anything that will inspire creativity, new ideas and, well, to pass the time. Lately by luck or just a more tuned in state of mind,  I have found plenty of luxury brands turning to animation to tell their unique stories. I thought I would do a round up of some of my latest finds and share them with you!

It’s not often that animation and fashion mix but when they do, I am happiest.

Reading Between the Lines

As we all know I have a Kate Spade obsession. I love her so much and am slowly planning on making my first big KS handbag purchase hopefully in the next few months. It’s like buying a computer. The minute you purchase it, a new and better model comes out immediately, so I’m trying to wait for the Spring collection to come out, or I’m procrastinating.

However, while I wait around, I thought I’d have a little fun with Mrs. Spade! One of the things the brand does so well, is create the image of a truly witty and playful woman. The girl you love to hate! She has everything but you secretly, or openly, admit you want to be her. Each KS item comes with a whimsy little glimpse of what life is like for those that covet her things. I’ve pulled together some of my favorite descriptions, and then edited them a little. Absolutely no disrespect to Kate or her brand. You only make fun of those that you truly love!

Kate says: Treat your friend to lunch! Why not, right? It gives you an opportunity to show off your sensational Kate Spade New York Daycation Lacey.

Reading between the lines: Treat your friend to lunch! Are you kidding? I just missed a credit card payment to buy this wallet and now it is stuffed underneath a ton of receipts and an old lipstick at the bottom of my knock off Kate Spade bag!

See where I’m going with this? 😀

Kate says: Hailing a cab on a cold day has never been easier! Just raise your Kate Spade New York Taxi Mittens to the air and watch those drivers line up for you.

Reading between the lines: You can wave those cabs good-bye as you raise your expensive Kate Spade New York Taxi Mittens and start hoofing it down the cold smelly streets of New York City.

Kate says: With the Kate Spade New York City Lights Umbrella, take the scenic route to your destination in glorious style.

Reading between the lines: With the Kate Spade New York City Lights Umbrella, taking the scenic route means walking, since I paid $75 for an umbrella instead of putting that money towards a 50 ride metro card. And did I mention that I’m soaked?

Kate says: You may have a hard time pronouncing the name of this lovely Kate Spade New York cosmetic case, but at least you’ll know where your lipstick and other essentials are!

Reading between the lines: You may have a hard time avoiding debt collectors each month when you are walking around Central Park wearing a sandwich board that says, “supercalifragilbroke”, but at least you’ll know where your lipstick is!

And there you have it!

Like I said, you only make fun of what you truly love, and at this rate, I am deep in throes of passion for all things Kate Spade!

What Would Kate Spade Do?

I’m sitting at my desk plowing through the latest Harper’s Bazaar even though I have a huge client deadline due in an hour. It’s cold and grey outside on this wintry January, but I need to know what new shades of polish I need for the perfect springtime manicure! The soundtrack of Amelie swirls through my headphones. I take a sip of my double mocha latte extra shot of espresso, and I take a bite of my double fudge cream cheese filled cupcake that my assistant brought in. I reach into my Kate Spade Grove Court poppy red bag and pull out my…

…Wait a minute, this isn’t my life. Let me rephrase.

I’m sitting at my desk plowing through emails trying to figure out how I’m going to reach that deadline in an hour. It’s cold and grey outside on this wintry January, with no sign of the sun or warm air in sight! The soundtrack of the presentation that’s due is seething through my headphones. I take a sip of the crappy coffee that I made and I’m already feeling empty from that mushroom and zucchini egg white omelet that I made in the dark this morning. And above all that, I only wish I could reach into any sort of Kate Spade bag but I can’t bring myself to purchase one for fear that I may unleash a KS purchasing monster!

Kate Spade, the woman, the brand, the goddess! Whoever or whatever she is exudes the classic ideal, perfectly put-together woman. The woman that I want to be! The woman who eats massive cupcakes all day without gaining an inch, who wears heels to work everyday and then continues to parade around classy cocktail joints in them at night! She probably doesn’t sleep but never needs the tiniest bit of under eye concealer. Ahhhh, I’m in love.

I don’t know where my obsession with her began but it was only until recent that I signed up for every KS sale alert, blog, website, instagram feed anything that is Kate! I dream about owning everything of hers and living the life that the KS girl lives! Colorfully

And each and every day as I get ready in the morning and try and choose what to wear, how to carry myself around co-workers and peers, I ask myself, “What Would Kate Spade Do?”

If I have one fashion resolution for 2012 it’s to Live Colorfully a la Kate Spade! (and blog more!)

Dress Like a New Yorker – New Challenge

It’s Monday and I’m here with a 3 day challenge that I think will be fun. My previous post, on New Yorkers and fashion, have lead me to my latest challenge. I enjoy challenging myself to be a tad fashion forward and I admire the fearlessness of New York women and their fashion choices. So this week, I will dress based on each of the observations. Let’s recap so we all know what I’m in for.

– New York Women are Unafraid to Experiment

– Their wardrobe is a host of unique, one-of-a-kind pieces

– Fashion should be effortless

So with that being said, today I am attempting to be effortless in my fashion choice. Today we are experiencing some really cool temperatures. I don’t love the cold (50 degrees is cold for me!) but I love dressing for the cooler months. I’m kind of in love with this look and it was extremely comfortable to wear all day! The best part was that the stockings have the same chevron pattern as the dress! Subtle but noted! (still getting used to having my pic taken)

Already have tomorrow’s look ready. It’s going to be my Unafraid to Experiment Look. I’m a little nervous because it will be trés bold! Stay tuned.

Making the Who Dat Nation Fashionable!

Crazy day! Okay, so I know they are not technically considered heels, but I wore my really cute ankle bootie wedges today. I learned a lot this morning before I even got out the door and I have been dying to share this with you. I knew today’s dress had to be fairly casual. I was helping with a photo shoot which required me to be really mobile today so testing out a pair of high heels that I hadn’t worn in a year wasn’t really an option. I could still run down the street to our main studio when the camera charger went AWOL. I wouldn’t have been able to do that in a pair of 4 inch heels.

My brand new Saints shirt came in the mail yesterday and I was dying to wear it today. I put it on and even ate breakfast wearing it when I came to my senses and realized that a shirt like this was better meant to be saved for game day. Of course I am a fan, but it’s Tuesday for pete’s sake. If I really feel the need to be sporting the black and gold, I can do it in other ways. So I changed out of my cute Saints tee and opted for a basic white t-shirt but with a little bit of sparkle and my new Missoni velour hoodie, skinny jeans and wait for it, a glittery gold belt, black and gold Kate Spade bangle and a tiny little New Orleans Saints charm. Hellooo! I just made being a member of the Who Dat Nation fashionable. I get all my black and gold in and it’s subtle. I do feel like I cheated myself out of a day of heels but I promise I’ll make up for it tomorrow. It’s like when you miss a day at the gym and you know you’re going to have do an extra set of lunges! I’ll wear some good ones tomorrow!

I’m so not liking the photos but I don’t know what other way to do it.

Skinny Jeans – Levi’s, Wedge Ankle Booties, Blowfish – DSW
White Sparkle Tee – Banana Republic, Glittery Gold Belt – ebay, Kate Spade Bangle

Come Together! Right Now…

Alas! Things are starting to come together. I’ve shopped quite a bit over the last few months and I think I’ve finally got a good mix of pieces. Now it’s time to take those new pieces, combine them with what I already have and that’s how you put together a wardrobe! Maybe old news to you, but news to me! I’ve cracked the code! I spent last night, while I added more Manic Panic hot hot pink to my hair, going through my closet analyzing what works and what doesn’t. Amazing what a little effort in selecting colors and silhouettes will do. I put together more outfits than I knew what to do with, complete with accessories! The best part is that I’m able to use quite a few existing items. Items that I swore to myself, if I don’t wear this season, I’ll THINK about donating. Today I present to you, for the first time ever, my wardrobe!

Skinny black jeans from Ann Taylor! Similar to the ones shown here but a few years old.

Striped Keyhole-Back Tee – White House Black Market

Belt from ModCloth foodie dress – purchased last year

Black Patent Marcus loafers – Topshop

Boyfriend Cardigan – purchased from sale 2008 – JCrew

Kate Spade Idiom Bangle!!!!- a gracious and lovely gift from my sister-in-law Meghan! My bracelet is gold with black detail. I LOVE IT!

And to top it all off, I thought I’d share my beautiful custom skull ring, designed by my loving husband, MT Maloney. It’s one of his earlier works and by no means indicative of what he is currently doing, but it’s one of a kind and was created for me!

It feels so nice to actually take pride in what I put on in the morning. It’s not just a half awake attempt to reach my arm into my closet early in the morning and get dressed in the dark. It screams, “I’m ready to take on the day!”
